Frequently Asked Questions

HyRAP® hot mix asphalt is the finished product of mixing dry aggregates with a recycling agent at a central mixing plant. However, unlike traditional hot mix asphalt, the dry aggregates that make up HyRAP® consists of 100% reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). Under some circumstances, when a larger aggregate is required, the percentage of RAP falls to 85%, but still far greater than any traditional hot mix asphalt. Under limited scenarios a small amount of paving grade asphalt oil may be necessary.
An Asphalt-Rubber Aggregate Membrane (ARAM) followed by a HyRAP® thin lift wearing surface. Used in areas primarily residential, collectors and arterials where a smoother surface than an ARAM coarse surface is desired.
RAP stands for reclaimed asphalt pavement and is a term given to removed and/or reprocessed pavement materials containing asphalt and aggregates. Reclaimed asphalt pavement is generated when asphalt pavements are removed for reconstruction, resurfacing, or to obtain access to buried utilities. When properly crushed and screened, RAP consist of high-quality, well-graded aggregates coated by asphalt cement.

HyRAP® is manufactured at Manhole Adjusting Inc.’s Colton, California facility.

An Asphalt-Rubber Aggregate Membrane, consist of a spray application, usually .55 to .65 gallons per square yard, of hot reacted Asphalt-Rubber (“binder”), which is covered by hot pre-coated 3/8 aggregates at a rate of approximately 35 pounds per square yard. An ARAM is used as a waterproofing, flexible, skid resistant surface treatment, or as an interlayer.

Yes, 100% Sustainable HyRAP® HMA mixes can be used anywhere an agency  is currently using conventional hot mix asphalt mixes.
Yes, HyRAP® is hot mix asphalt, and therefore can be used for street maintenance, patching, and pothole repairs. By special order, the Colton HyRAP® mixing plant can produce a berm mix and cold mix as well. Click below here. for a quote.
